Psychological and Physical Strain Caused by Fecal Incontinence in Hospitals: An Underestimated Risk for Patients and Caregivers
Fecal incontinence in immobile hospital patients is associated with severe psychological and physical strain. The constant fear of embarrassing situations and the loss of autonomy often lead to social isolation, depression, and stress. Additionally, prolonged contact with stool can cause skin irritation, eczema, and infections, significantly reducing patients' quality of life. A frequently underestimated complication is urinary tract infections caused by intestinal bacteria, which can lead to serious health issues, particularly in women.
To minimize these risks, targeted hygiene measures and the use of modern solutions such as the hygh-tec® fecal management system are essential. These tools help reduce infection risks, improve care quality, and enhance patient well-being. Studies and clinical users confirm the high efficiency and reliable infection protection of the system. By implementing such systems, complications can be prevented, and patients' quality of life can be significantly improved.
